Hi All!
Is it possible to develop RS-232 applications with J2ME. I mean, could you access to the serial port of your PC with a J2ME phone with the MIDP 1.0 specification?
Thanks all!
Best Regards, Luis ´┐Żngel.

The answer is: maybe. J2ME is more oc a concept than a conrete platform. Going from vague to conrete, you have: J2ME, CDC/CLDC, MIDP/PDAP/Personal Profile, specific implementations. MIDP is the only finalized profile (unless you counter Personal Java, which is an earlier incarnation of Personal Profile). Since you're talking about phones, you'll need MIDP. MIDP only requires support for http. It doesn't specify how that connection works, i.e. through what medium; however, I think in every case it will be done through the wireless connection. Specific vendors may choose to add support for connecting through the serior port, or other IO options, but this is not required.
Bottom line: its up to the phone manufacturers.
