Hi Dave
I think you've got the ground work - its almost time to collect!
I'd suggest get Mughal and Rassmussen's A Programmer's Guide to Certification and read it cover to cover (except swing,
applets, painting, and javadoc parts - thats almost 200pp out!) do the tests and the exam included. This should sharpen your focus for the exam and get you used to the fairly 'contrived' stuff that can come up in the exam that is given to
test knowledge of the API and the nuances of the language - Remember the exam does not really test you on your ability/experience as a programmer.
While Eckel's book is excellent for practical Java programming it is not geared for the
SCJP.
Do some mocks. Marcus Greenes' are worth it (there are three)and you can get simulators such as JQPlus and JWhiz - this should get you familiar with the format and the type of question that can come up. Possibly you may want to do 1-2 mocks just to see where youre at before starting study and what areas you may need to swat up on and what areas your'e proficient in
If you can put in 8hrs/day - maybe 10 days?? I don't think your'e far away given the amount of time you can commit and your background
Others I'm sure will have different opinions on this
