<http://www.javaranch.com/ubb/posticon.gif> posted February 12, 2002 09:16 AM [Profile for thomas schild] [Email thomas schild] [Send New Private Message] [Edit/Delete Post] [Reply With Quote] I ran into the following problem while evaluating Sun's J2ME Wireless Toolkit under Linux:
The device emulator starts in an not resizalbe Window with the wrong dimensions, ie. the window is MUCH to small. This problem is dependant of the X-WindowManager used:
* this occurs using kwm, icewm or WindowMaker;
* this occures using gnome, but only if the emulator is started out of the ktoolbar, not when started by "emulator &" on the commandline;
* this is NO problem, when using twm
Has anyone any suggestions what's the reason for this behavior and how I can use my favorite windowmanager (icewm) and develop in my favorite programming language (Java) on my favorite OS(Linux)? Thank You such much for your respond!
Linux: SuSE 7.3
Java: Sun J2SE 1.3.1
J2ME: Sun J2ME Wireless Toolkit 1.3.0

thomas,
I don't know if my answer is related to your problem, but that may help anyway:
From the J2ME Wireless toolkit FAQ:

Q. What are the system requirements for the J2ME Wireless Toolkit?
A. ...
Important Notes on System Requirements for the UNIX Platform:
The version for the Solaris operating environment was tested only on English versions of Solaris 2.7 and Solaris 8.
The Linux version was tested only on English Red Hat Linux 7.1, kernel 2.4.2-2. If you have a problem running JDK 1.3 on these software versions, you may have to define an environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5.

Q. Is the J2ME Wireless Toolkit supported on Linux or the SolarisTM operating environment?
A. We provide executables for both of these platforms, but they are not officially supported.

Q. I have another question, and I can't find the answer here.
A. j2mewtk-comments@sun.com is the address to which you can send feedback and questions about the J2ME Wireless Toolkit.
