Thanks Carl. This here's a right friendly place y'all run. Who knows, maybe I'll see you at JavaOne again next year? Or perhaps Colorado Software Summit in the fall?

Mark,
What is your favorite J2ME book? Could you recommend the best book for me who have no experience with J2ME?
Thanx.

What, I'm expected to read these books?!?! :-)
Actually, I really haven't read any books, aside from Eric Guire's book. That was the first one out, and frankly, I was a little disappointed. It didn't get very in depth. Now, in fairness, it was the first one out, and I was already working in the field. I didn't bother reading the other two books, I got, and now I just got this third. Not to come off as too cocky, since I was not only working in the field, but helping to define it (I was on the PDAP JSR), I was often ahead of the books.
I'll try to glance through them in the next few weeks when I get back to Boston to answer your question.

Mark, why don't you give your winning book away to someone who does need it? I mean, I give mine away to a friend whom I wish to "convert" to the J2ME camp. (I already had a review copy of that book from the publisher

but helping to define it (I was on the PDAP JSR), I was often ahead of the books.

OK, so what's going on with PDAP? I have been waiting for it to come out for many months. I have the feeling that it is losing momentum to MIDP on the low end because of such long delay. Can you give us some insider information? (such as when should we expect it to come out? what is it like? Is the GUI like kAWT?)
cheers

I considered that, but since I am active in the J2ME field, I'd like to keep the books around, both for my reference, as well as that of my co-workers (who do regularly read my books)--so they're not going completely to waste.
As for MIDP, I don't know. I can't really talk about it much since I'm still under NDA. I can tell you we lost a couple months work when the spec lead left his job, and the group went silent--since no one knew. Also, when I left my job last Nov, I gave up my seat, so I haven't kept up with it lately.
