Hi,
I am planning to develop an application for my Nokia 7650 as a way of learning J2ME. I am also planning to use Bluetooth to build in some functionality. What all software should I be downloading?
Do I need Symbian OS during the development and testing of my application? I guess Symbian OS is already there in my phone.

You can run midlets (applications written with J2ME) on the midp emulator that Sun provides. This is convenient for initial testing since you don't have to wait for uploading to the target device. You should download the CLDC and MIDP packages from java.sun.com. You should be able to find these by using the J2ME link. If Nokia provides an emulator for your specific cell phone, you may also find that useful for development, but you can probably make do without it.
Also, I suggest that you buy a book to help you along the way. I am using John Muchow's Core J2ME Technology. It has some good examples to illustrate the classes used for midlet development. You can also find reviews for other books at Amazon.com or your favorite on-line bookstore.
Good luck with your exploration of this fascinating part of Java.

You only need SymbianOs 7 uiq or the emulator for symbian for those phone slike Sony Ericsson's P800..
and remember Sun's WTK emulator only tests or simulates certain phones..siemens has it sown set of emualtors and so does motorola..
