creating trial versions of J2ME apps

Does anyone have any information on what steps need to be taken to create a trial version of a J2ME application. I am assuming one technique would be to just create a version of the app with limited features, but I was wondering if there are other options.
I noticed that many distribution channels (ie. Handango) allow for users to download a "trial" version but wasn't sure exactly what options are available to the developer in creating this version.
Thanks for your help,
Greg
