I was wondering if your book talks at all about the actual Micro Edition VM that Sun has created. Do you give any information on the footprint of the VM. What embedded systems (Processors) J2ME is targeted for, etc. If not, do you have any links with this kind of information? Thanks. [ June 24, 2003: Message edited by: Gregg Bolinger ]

Yes he does briefly go into footprint on both vms in J2ME in fact.. The processors are MIPS, ARM, PPC, and etc I do know SUN is set to release the vm for arm in the next few weeks in fact accrodign to my SUN spies..
Is there any information in the book or elsewhere that talks about the difference in performance between J2ME and other Embedded OS's?

No. The book only talk about APIs using the standard VM implementation from Sun. It is extremely hard to benchmark embedded VMs even if they are for the same hardware platform. JavaWorld published an article a couple months ago about J2ME performance. It is the best study I have seen so far. J2ME devices: Real-world performance
