I was hoping someone could provide some information on what sort of phone plan is necessary for running networked apps for different carriers.
Nextel, for example, requires customers to purchase a web package for a few dollars per month in order to download applications from the iDEN Update website. In order to use networked-apps, Nextel customers must also purchase a data plan (ie. packetstream) that allows a user a certain amount of network traffic per month. This starts at around $9/mo for 1MB of packet data.
If anyone has similar information for SprintPCS, Cingular, T-Mobile or AT&T Wireless, please let me know. Thanks so much!

There's some suggested phone/carrier combinations toward the end of this thread.
Hope it helps...

Burk -
Thanks for the info. I was actually hoping to find a little more detailed info specifically pertaining to rate plans necessary for networked J2ME apps. If anyone has any of this info for SprintPCS, Cingular, T-Mobile or ATT Wireless, please let me know. Thanks again!
