How do I read more than one piece of data (e.g. multiple items from a database) from a servlet to a MIDlet. I have the connection to the servlet working and the servlet is talking to the database.

Well, how are you reading a single item?
One option is to use XML, a possibly more appropriate solution could be to create your own message format.
