Downloading Images from server

I have managed to create a MIDLet that connects to a server and downloads a picture to the phone. This works perfectly on the emulator but when I put in on any phone it wouldn't connect. I commented out most of the code and found that using
DataInputStream iStrm = connection.openDataInputStream();
made the MIDlet not connect.
