Besides your connection as mentioned, you need also to have a WAP gateway installed on your PC if you are accessing it via Bluetooth or IR. This not true if you are accessing it via GPRS because your provider will do the job (this may cost you a lot for testing). And of course your PC should have a public IP for your provider to locate your URL.

Ummm... you can't do this, unless there is some trick to the specific handset you are using. For example, I can do this from a PocketPC based phone. I might be able to do it using a Palm phone, but in general, the browser is programmed to only work with the stack in the phone. That stack is programmed to only work over the cellular network. You can not simply redirect TCP/IP requests to a serial data port on the phone.

I have done this before but only as a developer. While writing a WAP browser for a particular handset we reprogrammed the handset to use a PPP serial data connection instead of the wireless connection so that we could do development work. This required low-level access to the source code.

The only other way I can imagine doing this is to write your own browser in J2ME and then find a handset what allows serial data access from MIDlets (there are a few). Then you could do what ever you wanted but it wouldn't be using the native WAP browser.
