Can anybody suggest how to create screensaver in J2ME?

u jst count the time after a key press and based on the time u show any animation screen.

Can u explain what u want exactly - c++/c will be the best option if u want a system program which will come up at regular intervals if there are no keypresses.Because startup time for java in its current implementation is high.

And are u planning to keep midlet running always in the background

(My boss is a Jewish carpenter)

MIDP 2.0 does not allow background MIDlets in the intented way,
unless you have a platform-dependent behaviour.

It seems MIDP 3.0 is going to support background MIdlets.
