Four or five months ago, somebody posted in MD a question. He wasn't sure if he wanted children due to the state of the world, and i suggested adoption. I listed several points on why adoption was a valid choice, that may or may not solve his delimma.
A few days later, i was discussing said topic with my wife. I listed my points for her, and ended up convincing HER that she wanted to adopt. It then took her another month or so to convice me. We are now about 4 months into the process of adopting a baby girl from China (we live in the U.S.).
So, if it weren't for SUN creating the Java language and the cert. tests, and it weren't for the Ranch being here to help me prepare, I wouldn't be adopting a little girl.
so, thanks.
p.s. i bet nobody ever thought that this site would be the impetus for at least one adoption in the world!!!

That's outstanding, Fred! Congratulations! That is so great to hear! Best wishes to you and your wife.
I hope your story will serve as a reminder for those who haven't grasped the function that MD has been serving. Maybe someday you will share some of your experiences with us in MD. Keep us up to date on how everything goes.

Congratulations!
I'd like to see the original thread that started this life-change.

It was this one.
HS, you even posted a thought there. I left the thread when it got a little too... i don't know... something. It just seemed to kind of change tone, i eventually left it alone. Don't know what happend to it, the last post was on Dec. 11th, with someone asking the OP a question.
Maybe i'll write some of my experiences in MD, if you think that's appropriate.

Thanks everyone. Kishore, i think "hero" is too strong a word, but the thought is greatly appreciated.
My actual thought when i was posting this was not so much "hey, i'll get kudos from everyone" so much as "isn't this an interesting way in which Java, the Java community, and specifically this site has has unforseeable influence on things totally unrelated to Java".
I wonder if i could get my wife to let me give my daughter-to-be a middle name of "Java"...

Hero in my context is more to do with 'Some one who makes a difference in this world'. That is why I considered you as one.
Have a nice time with new baby in the family.

Please do. How did you start and get through the process.

Xiaomai is "wheat" in Chinese
Xiao is a Chinese girl name and I think Mai is a surname.

She may thank you if you just call her Ah-wen.

Fred,
If possible could you give me some info on how you went about adopting. I haven't finishing selling my wife on this, but I'm sure I will. (She is after-all 8.5 months pregnant, so she got other concerns )
Thanks.

i have made this thread in MD. I'll try to answer any questions there. If the moderators want to close this one, that's fine. Or leave them both open - whatever they feel appropriate.
thanks!!!
