Why Spring as opposed to struts or tapestry? It seem to me that Spring is simply another fairly popular web framework among a sea of fairly popular web frameworks.

As discussed here, Spring is much, much more than a Web Framework. It is more of a general J2EE Application Framework. In fact, the MVC piece of Spring is probably the least used piece.

That said, I don't think that Spring should be given an entire forum. Questions on Spring should go in the forum relevant to the abstraction being discussed. For example, if you how questions on how to write JdbcTemplate classes than the question should probably be posted to the JDBC Forum. If you having questions on using Spring with Hibernate then you should post to the ORM Forum... and so on.

If we have enough traffic about Spring, it might be a worthwhile idea.

How many Spring threads are there now? If we created a new forum, we could move 20 or so over to the new forum.

Then we would need a current bartender to volunteer to moderate the forum.

Finally, we would need at least one person who is enough of a Spring enthusiast to help get discussion in the forum rolling.
