hi,
i am writing a applet based program from which i want to open a Frame, this isnt a problem in itself, but i know that most ( if not all) jvm's dont support the use of swing, etc. i read somewhere that it is possible to configure the users browser to use the jre installed on their pc rather than the jvm. i am looking for instructions / information about this.
thanks in advance

hi!
testing applets with the java plug-in is a bit of pain because you need to run all u'r html files through converter. you can download htmlconverter from java.sun web page.

thanks mujtaba,
this seems to be what im looking for, but i dont just want to use it for testing purposes, i aim to use it for running a database system through an Applet over my employers intranet, this system will be critically important to the daily running of the company's business, so it must be stable enough for this purpose. I have tested JDBC side of it and that seems to work fine so far, next i plan to develop a JApplet that opens a JFrame which will contain the user interface.
Am i likely to have any problems with this?
thanks again

From what ive read today on suns java plug-in pages, you need to do the following:
have jre1.3 installed
set the java plug in to be enabled in your control panel
use the html converter to create the correct tags for your applet and your chosen browser
I havent tried the html converter yet, but the grey screen you mentioned is what i have encountered when trying to load a JApplet with the normal <applet> tags. when i move my mouse over the applet, the status message displays 'load: class DavesApplet not found', but the java console tells me that it is the class JApplet that cannot be found.
If you have everything setup correctly and the correct tags in your html code, then im not sure what your problem might be without more information.
try checking your java console for exceptions, etc.
hope this helps
dave
