I'm using A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification: A Comprehensive Primer and I swear by it - it's one of the best books I've found to help you prepare for the exam. You can also look here for more good certification book reviews.
Best of luck,
Corey

I guess it depends what you mean by basic Java knowledge. Unless your knowledge is more than what I would consider basic I don't know how you could get through K&R's book and understand it all in three weeks while working full time. Maybe if you don't sleep
Then again, I aint the smartest kid on the block so may have just seemed a lot tougher for me

That does not sound like enough time with only basic knowledge and working FT. Most people need like 2-3 months, some even more.

Whilst it depends heavily on your current level of knowledge, 3 weeks would be a very, very short amount of time to prepare. It is very dissapointing if you do not pass.

The Mughal book is excellent and relatively concise. Know which parts to skip if the SCJP exam is the short term goal (Swing, Applet, Javadoc).
