Just to refresh Jane's statistics...
For those of you who are interested, here is a chart about some SCJP statistics...

Be aware, though, that those numbers are NOT the results from Sun Microsystems. I collected them in the Prog Cert Result forum and they cover the time interval [October 2000,February 2002].
875 people reported their score.
I'll try to keep that updated in the future...

As nice as that is, I wonder how accurate it is if these are the numbers that are collected from general announcements. After all, how likely is someone to announce that they got a failing grade - you're much more apt to announce what you got when you scored well than when you did poorly.

Corey,
you are right, but as I said those stats are not accurate at all, but I thought they would be a little informative anyway...
Sorry, if didn't manage to hack Sun's database

Valentin,
I see from your stats 4 or 5 people have reported scores of 100%. It made me wondering because at another forum at java.ditmas (JBoard - certification - SCJP - "Wrong question is exam") I have read it's impossible to score 100%....because they (SUN) always put an unanswerable question in the exam..
I'd like to hear your (and others) opinion on this...

For what purpose would they do that?
I'm sure there are questions in their database that are not correct, but I highly doubt that they would have put them in there intentionally.

Valentin:
Nice chart!! So where is the statistical analysis (mean, mode, standard deviation, percentiles, etc.) ??

Interesting to see the graph. Do those dates cover the change in exam, when the pass mark was changed from 71% to 61%?
I wonder if that explains the dip at the 70% mark.

I can't figure out a reason, just trying to find out if such experiences are around here ... at java.ditmas' JBoard a few people mentioned it.
Don't think either a well respected (I think) company like SUN would mess with this!

Only a very little overlap I think. The change was made in late November or early December of '00. The other change around at that time was from 90 min. to 120 min (then back to 90 again?). There was a period of a month or two when you did not know what you would see at a particular testing center. Some had changed, some had not.
I'm pretty sure about these dates because I passed in Dec '00, and the grade/time allowed was on my mind a lot.
Regards, Guy
