Hi,
I am planning to appear for the SCJP exam and am currently referring to the following books:
1. Java2 Complete Reference - Herbert Schildt
2. Core Java2 - Sun Microsystems Press
3. Thinking in Java - Bruce Eckel
Is "Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide" by Roberts/Heller/Ernest, an essential/advantageous purchase ??
Thanks.

Hi Vijay!
Reading from the posts over here, I believe it seems to be a good book. I just ordered one yesterday.
Don't forget to print out the Errata for this book and keep it handy while you are studying/reading.
Here is the link for errata:

I have come to conclusion, while preparing for SCJP, that it is a good idea to sit with the errata when you are reading any book.

I found it to be a valuable resource while I was studying for the test. It is not a good book for learning Java programming but it is a great book to use for certification study.

Any opinion's on Programmers Guide to Java certification by Khalid A Mughal and Rolf W Rasmussen?
Though very non interactive, I find this book very comprehensive. WHat do you think?

It's a good book, but if you already have those other books you could probably benefit most with something that concentrates more narrowly on the exam topics.
You might be as well to buy one of the smaller Cram books such as Bill Brogdens plus print out all of my tutorial. That will be both cheaper and keep you focussed strictly on the objectives.
