I know these are basic questions but I am getting no joy from the Sun rep here who says that JDK1.2 to 1.4 are all covered in the exam. The posts on this list imply otherwise. So I would appreciate any enlightenment on these: 1. What are the available JDK versions of the SCJP exam? 2. Can I choose which version of the exam to take? 3. Where can I obtain a list of the latest Sun objectives for each exam? The Success Guide from the Sun website still includes the awt and I/O packages but I understand these have been removed - can anyone confirm? Thanks in advance Steve
Well, as of right now, there is only one test, SCJP, and it doesn't matter what version of the JDK (well 1.2 or greater). There are no significant differences in 1.2,1.3,or 1.4 as far as what the SCJP test is covering. Your definitive guide for the Java language is the same in all cases - JLS 2nd Ed (Java Language Specification) There soon will be a new SCJP test that has been revamped in to coincide with the new JDK 1.4 platform. THAT version has had some objectives changed from previous tests (and the current test). It's still in beta form at the moment. They are currently not planning on making AWT or file IO objectives on this new test. The new test should be out this summer - but that's just the target goal. So for now, there's only one SCJP test, and it includes AWT and IO, and it won't matter if you use jdk 1.2 or 1.3 or 1.4 to practice. Soon however, there will be a new test with slightly different objectives and will focus more on the JDK 1.4 version. Hope this helps!
