I've been studying Java using the Complete Java 2 Certification guide. Now I'm looking at JQ+ and was working on some garbage collection questions--a lot of them about finalize() which is only covered under the Developer section. I'm curious if JQ+ covers material I don't really need to know. Any opinions? --John
John Section 3 of both the 1.2 and 1.4 test is about garbage collection. In fact the 1.4 version asks you to klnow than the 1.2 version did. Here are the garbage collection objectives from the 1.4 Exam objectives:
SECTION 3: GARBAGE COLLECTION State the behavior that is guaranteed by the garbage collection system. Write code that explicitly makes objects eligible for garbage collection. Recognize the point in a piece of source code at which an object becomes eligible for garbage collection.
With that said, yes JQ+ and the other exam prep guides almost all contain additional info that isn't specifically on the exam. In most cases it is information that will help to maintain your base of knowledge that you can build off of, and in some cases it is neccesary to know and understand something else before you can fully grasp the concept from the exam.
