There is an upgrade exam (310-026) coming out September for people who want to upgrade their 1.2 certification to a 1.4 certification. Is anyone aware of what the objectives of this exam are going to contain, and perhaps of topics there are not going to be part of the objectives? Also, is there any word on when are the official objectives expected to be announced? Thanks, Panagiotis.
Thanks John for the prompt reply, but these are the objectives for the SUN CERTIFIED PROGRAMMER FOR JAVA[tm] 2 PLATFORM 1.4 test to be available August, not the objectives for the 1.2 -> 1.4 exam (310-026) to be available September. I wonder if anyone has a clue as to what those objectives will be.
From the FAQ, I guess that all that wasn't in the 1.2 certification objectives would be part of the upgrade exam:
- Questions on the Assertion mechanism will be on the exam (you must know how to appropriately use assertions (i.e. not just how, but when) and you must know the command-line switches for both compiling and running with assertions enabled). - Questions on Collections, equals, hashcode, and the Wrapper classes have been deepened, so you can expect more detailed questions on these topics.
First Version of my post My understanding is that this is an entirely stand alone exam, not an upgrade. Of course if you already have the 1.2 certification you can take the new 1.4 but there is not a huge advantage in doing this. Marcus Second version Ohh, yes I continued reading a second after posting this and found they really do intend to have an upgrade exam, amazing what you can learn at JavaRanch. Scary sometimes, isn't it. Actually, I'm very happy to hear about the upgrade - I have to say that I can't wait to hear what the pricing and the specs for it are. I've been debating whether or not I wanted to go through the whole process of SCPJ2 certification again, and if they'll offer a quicker way to handle it... then all the better.
