Can anybody out there recommend a good text book
specifically aimed at helping a student through
the exam ???

Hi Paul ,
'The Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide '
by Roberts & Heller is in my opinion one very good text that might help you.
Exam Cram , and another one by Khalid Mughal are among another few.
Bruce Eckel's 'Thinking in Java' , is another good text, which is also freely downloadable .
