Some considerations on the SCJP preparation

Well,
I'm going to have my SCJP examination on the 14th of August ... it's very close.
I think being ready but want to share some thoughts before passing it :
1) As I'm not a Java professional (I'm preparing the certification on my spare time), I think it's difficult to have a real experience. Probably someone working daily with Java whould have, fo instance, less difficulties to deal with all the variation of parameters of the IO classes.
2) About AWT, I don't understand why Sun hasn't thrown it away that from the certification. Swing has been released for a while now.
3) Peeping around for Mocks exams, I found some very valuable, thanks to Javaranch and alike sites, but for some others, it was a pity. Doesn't seem complicated to create some very hard question but mostly the problem is accuracy. Too often the questions are vague enought to be confusing and the answer are to often WRONG ....
Lost some times on them...
4) Maybe it's a good sign that you are ready to pass the examination when you are able to see something is wrong in a test !!!
5) For my preparation I bought Jamie Javorski book in its french flavour and I also bought the following from Sun :
WGS-PREX-J025B: Practice Certification Exam for Sun[TM] Certified Programmer For the Java 2 Platform
It cost some money (not that much 75$) but is very reliable and clear with good explanations for every question (about 200) with links to Sun's documentation
6) I got a 87% score on Sun's Practice Certification Exam but only 52% on Jiris SCJP2 Mock Exam No. 2. I'll probably score in between
7) The final point now . As probably a lot of you, I like to be more clever than the others which drives me to answer to quickly to questions. From my own estimation, I could have got a 10% better score on tests if I had taken a bit more time to fully read the questions and analyze the proposed answers...
Voila.
Thanks for the audience and see you on Wednesday... after my examination

Sun has dropped AWT from the SCJP 1.4 exam, but that exam won't be available until August 19. See

It would be interesting to here how close the examination is to the Sun Test Exam that you paid for. Less or more difficult?
I have done it too (I also paid 75US$). But the mock exams seem to be much harder.
Good Luck for Wednesday...

The question is what's the purpose of Sun's certification :
EITHER to know everything about the trickiest aspects of Java we will maybe use once in 10 years(some Mocks are a good example).
In some respect they are kind of a game.
OR
To acquire all the necessary knodwledge to make the best of Java in a everyday programming situation.
I've been working for now 14 years in programming (Fortran, Pascal, VB, some C++ and a lot of xPL (DCL,JCL, etc) and when facing some difficulty, I never minded having a look at the documentation or asking a collegue or a friend.
I found Sun Test Exam easier and more reasonable than Mocks.
However, Mocks greatly helped me to make a deeper analyzis of the proposed problematics.
Thanks for reading. I've just paused for a while and have to return to java.io streams.

Good luck Anselme
The question is what's the purpose of Sun's certification :
You may find one good reason in the following article.
Ten reasons to get certified

SCJP 5, SCJD, SCBCD, SCWCD, SCDJWS, IBM XML

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
