SCJP 1.2 or SCJP 1.4?

I'm contemplating about being certified and found out that there are 2 versions of SCJP. Which one would be beneficial for Java newcomer? Before I invest in any studying materials, I need to do more researches. I plunged into Java a few months ago, but I've been coding C, C++ using Visual C++ & MFC, so OO Programming is not new to me. Thanks for your help.

There are lots of opinions on 1.4 vs 1.2 -- Check out Marcus Green's write up about it.
I recently decided to take the 1.4 test rather than 1.2. I don't do any GUI programming so not having to learn AWT was a huge deciding factor for me.
Also, realize that 90% of a SCPJ 1.2 book will be valid for the 1.4 test (simply skip the chapters about IO and AWT, and then study elsewhere for information on Assertions -- Sun's tutorial, Excerpt from Khalid Mughal's new book
