Hi all I am already started study 1.2 and spend good time in awt and io so do you think its better to change to 1.4 and how long take to prepare for new topics

The document, Programming with Assertions, contains all of the information that you need on the assertions topic.
Take a look at the 1.4 Java Docs to learn about two new Collections classes--LinkedHashMap and LinkedHashSet.
That's all there is to it.
