Kathy how good is the new Book, compared to the old the book (Second Edition). I have the old one, which does not cover assertions, and the Thread section is not up to par when compared to real exam questions (or Dan's questions). By the way I have already ordered the new one !
Thank You,

Sefa,
I participated in the beta testing of the questions for the new edition of Kathy's book and found her exams to be very, very similar to the real exam.
I would certainly recommend the book to anyone that is looking for a SCJP study guide.

Howdy!
This book is a completely new book, it has virtually nothing from the previous edition (which I was not a part of). I wrote this one from the ground up, immediately after the development of the real 1.4 exam was complete.
It does follow the same format as the previous version, because it's part of a certification series they have. So the look and feel is the same, but just about ALL the content is new.
One difficulty with the previous version, is that at least 12 people co-wrote it. So there were problems with style, tone, level-of-detail, quality, etc. being a little different from chapter to chapter, depending on who wrote what.
With this one, it was just me for most of the programmer exam parts of the book, until Bert came in and worked with me on some of the chapters , and he did most of the Developer section.
I really can't say if the book is well-written; only the readers can decide that. But I can *definitely* say that of all the certification books, this one is the most closely matched with the real exam, in the real content of the chapters (plus the mock exam questions are very close to the exam as well).
Here's a little fun story about the book:
The woman who wrote the endorsement quote on the front cover of the book is actually Simon Roberts' (author of the Roberts/Heller Sybex cert book) girlfriend. So even Simon's own girlfriend likes ours better
I know *exactly* what you're being tested on, so this book is designed to help you understand those things.
And since it is for the 1.4 exam, it does cover assertions and more on collections. The threads chapter covers threads to the extent of what you need for the exam.
Also, there is research indicating that you'll have 60.32% more fun with this book than any of the others. But wait, there's more! Many have found that when they switched to our book, their clothes required less ironing than before.
Cheers,
Kathy
(keep those questions coming)

Thank you Kathy, I will be looking forward to get the book. In the meantime I'll be reading the JLS, too bad JLS does not have a section on GC. And hopefully I'll save on dry cleaning.
