Hi All,
I bought Kathy Sierra's book at Borders in Columbus, Ohio, US at a price of $49.99, but going through some posts, I found out that price is $34.99.
Please let me know what price I should get the book.
Thanks
Neha

The list price for the book is $49.99, which is what you are going to pay at most brick and mortar stores. Amazon is selling it for list price, here. Bookpool is selling it for $30.95, here. (of course it is listed as out-of-stock)
Like anything else, you need to shop around to get the best deal.

If it eases the pain a little, here in Switzerland the equivalent price would be 65-70 US$ !! Based on book shop rate of exchange rate one third higher than it really should be.

I observed that BookPool is really offering good deals on books. Unfortunately Kathy's book is out of stock already here...

AddAll.com is the best place to compare price on Book.
According to my search on addall.com, the best price is at half.com

Howdy all,
Amazon was offering a deep discount (I think 30%) while the book was not yet shipping... I guess that is their pre-order special deal. But once they had the book in stock, the price immediately went back to list price, for now at least. But there are so-called *used* copies now on Amazon, which are books purchased at the discount price and then resold at a higher rate, but still less than full price. I think I saw some for $39.00. They are available on the same Amazon page as the book itself.
I'm *still* waiting for my copies to come from the publisher! But Bert saw one in a local technical bookstore, so I know they're slowly making their way out into the wide world.
Good luck with the search. By all means, be persistent. Each and every copy of that book is just waiting for a nice warm home. A place with happy people. Other books to play with. A dog.
So, isn't it worth a few dollars to brighten the life of one small (OK, medium-sized) book? ; )
Cheers and thanks to everyone who has mentioned the book. I do seriously hope it helps you with the exam.

Soon to be a major motion picture.

OK, so we have had RHE, K&M, Bill and Marcus, for short this will be either "Kathy's book" or Kathys Java Cert Book. Actually it might have made sense (but not to suits I guess) to have a Western Theme, cos as you say it is easy to get one from the other confused if you nare new to this.

Hi Guys:
I feel price isn't an issue for a book. After you read the book, it is your choice whether to keep it or not, if not, you can sell it, at a price reflecting the original price.
The bottom line is majority of books won't get too expensive. For my certification purpose, I bought........~5 ft. of books.

Just a reminder that if you want to support JavaRanch then buy a book from amazon using a link from JavaRanch. Even if you don't buy the book you linked from, JavaRanch still gets a small percentage of each sale.

Thomas, what happens if I enter a URL to a book in my post. Do you still get the loot?
And... if I buy via Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.de do you still get it?

In order for JavaRanch to get a percentage, the URL has to be in this form:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201310058/jr_bunk-20
The "jr_bunk-20" tells amazon who to give the commission to.
For amazon.UK use this form:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201310058/javaranch
We have no relationship with amazon.DE or amazon.CA.
