hi ,
I have been in java for abt 2 yrs and am in UK now.
I want to ask the people who are certified if the certification can really help me in getting a job in UK. Specially when there are so many sites selling u the questions of the exam. Do prospective employers consider a certified person better than a non certified one!
I do not want to spend my time if its of no value in getting a job! I agree studying for the exam clears many concepts!
thanks

I have seen links in google pages.. The questions are help questions for certification. My main doubt is if the certification is considered helpful in getting a job in UK or not

Getting the certification is just another proof of your skill, especially if you have no prior professional experience. Will it get you a job? Maybe maybe not. It certainly won't hurt your chances. Also, if you are faced up against someone with the same experience and you have the cert, they would most likely take you. That's how I and the consulting company I work for see it in Canada.

Certification certainly helps if you are a contractor, as employers are very discriminating in today's tough market. Only last week one of our Java contractors told me that he was failing to get interviews because he has no certification.
If you are a permie, a certification can at least do no harm.
I have to say that when I started studying for the exam, I thought only of the certificate. Then I realised how little I knew of Java. I have now advanced far beyond my colleagues in terms of knowing about Java fundamentals, and I have no concern about joining a project team and being fearful of being the one person who will let the side down. I'd almost say that you can't put a price on the confidence you get from having a solid understanding Java which studying for the SCJP gives you.
