Hello all, My name is Kashmira and I am a new member of the Java Ranch forums. Needed a bit of advice: I have recently moved from testing to development on the Java platform. I have done some Java in grad school (4 yrs ago!!!). I have been out of touch with programming for quite some time. I have been thinking of getting the SCJP cerification, although it is not a requirement at work. I want to know how helpful it would be to take this exam. Is it really worth it? Would it help me getting another job if I decided to go elsewhere? I did do some Cisco certifications while I was a tester, and I feel that it was quite a waste of time, so wanted some advice before I start working on the SCJP. Thanks in advance Kashmira

Check out some of these threads, there are some pretty good discussions going on: java certification (quite recent discussion) Certifications revisited (was: Javaranch's image discussion) that one starts off a little funny - but the guy who started the thread had a signature that said Certifications were silly. So the conversation insued. Have Java certs help you get a job? Please advice [ June 10, 2003: Message edited by: Jessica Sant ]
