This is actually the best book out there for the scjp.
Okay I'm biased. I haven't used other books.
That was the book I used and I aced the exam.
All you need is that book the mock exams that come with it and a fwe other mocks which you can find links to on the javaranch faq page.
I recommend Marcus Green's exams.

One more good thing about the book is that the authors frequent this site and help answer questions

Priyanka -
I just want to say something about the SCJD (developer) portion of our book. We couldn't talk our publisher out of including the SCJD section. We never believed that we could cover BOTH certifications thoroughly in 800 pages. So we decided to do our best job on the SCJP and then figure something out for the SCJD.
What we post occasionally on JavaRanch is that we really DON'T want anyone to buy our book for the SCJD portion. Buy Max Habibi's book, it's great!!! Several months ago we posted selected chapters from the SCJD portion on JavaRanch, where you are free to download them.
What we did in the SCJD section was to explain how the test assessors think and what they're looking for. We give you LOTS of questions to ask yourself, but we say almost NOTHING about how to actually do the project. In a nutshell, we say 'if you have good answers for all these questions, then you'll be in good shape'.
If you already have our book and decide to go for the SCJD certification, then we believe what we cover is valuable. But to buy our book JUST for the SCJD section would be a terrible value.
I recommend, if you're going for the SCJD, download our free sample chapters, and get Max's book - they go really well together.
