Number class charValue and shortValue?

Hi
I wondered why charValue() and shortValue() are overridden from abstract class Byte for example. They are implemented already in the Number class. Don't know why they would need to be overridden.

Given the above, I make the following assumption: The implementation of byteValue() in class Byte isn't neccessary, but it is far more efficient
