I have 1 year of programming experince in java(but I lost touch in the past 2 yrs). Please let me know how I should start(preferred books to refer, mock up tests etc).I have downloaded exam topics from Sun 's website.

Welcome to JavaRanch. Hanging out here and asking/answering questions is a great way to get yourself prepared for the exam. If you're looking to get a book to help you on your way, check out the Book Reviews here on the Ranch. I'm sure you'll find plenty of good recommendations there.
