newMod nm = new newMod();
nm.method4();

}

Using Eclipse the above code does not run. It gives the following runtime message

java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main
Exception in thread "main"

Any hints why this is the case?
NB: It works if I create a new class and do the following

class test{
public static void main(String args[]){
newMod nm = new newMod();
nm.method4();
}
}

I used the following code:

public class newMod extends Modifiers{
public void method1(){System.out.println("method3");}
public void method(){System.out.println("method3");}
public void method2(){System.out.println("method3");}
public void method3(){System.out.println("method3");}

public static void main(String args[]){
newMod nm = new newMod();
nm.method3();
}
}
abstract class Modifiers {
   public abstract void method1();
public abstract void method();
public abstract void method2();
public abstract void method3();
}

I have a sneaking suspicion that when you ran the code you tried to execute Modifiers and not newMod -- that's how I get the "no main found" error:

C:\blah>java newMod
method3
C:\blah>java Modifiers
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main
