Hi,
I dont know this question is relevant or not but i thought may be some replies can be of my help.
I am working for a MNC in Pune. India. Fairly well paid. i am currently working in the wireless devices domain. basically writing protocols and test inplementation for a Messaging server. i am working in Perl and to some extent in C#. But somehow i never wanted to make a career in Perl and testing. And i have always been interested in Java. Did a lot of coding back in my college days 1 year ago and would love to work in java.
Currently i was planning to take the SCJP exam hoping that it might be a good step and would boost my Resume next time i go for a job hunt and probably would help me get a Development job. But since i would be investing lot of time and money as well preparing for the exam i just wanted to make sure from u guys that is it worth it ? What do u all feel guys? But few people have told me going clearing SCJP exam just tells that u know the basic java very well and now no body is interested in core java but other java related techonologies like Servlets, SJPs, J2ME etc etc so i thought is spending money and time would help me?
thanks for your time
regards
Nilendu

Hi,
As you are interested in Java, u can very well take up the exam.
As far as i know, there are quite a lot of requirements for Java technologies in India and the exam would add some value to your resume.
You need to allot a considerable amount of time for the preparation. So plan well and start to prepare.
Good luck!!

Hi,
I agree with sanjana that there are good requirements and oppurtunities for Java technologies in india. Just have a look at this link
http://www.certmag.com/issues/jul00/feature_hecksel-green.cfm. I believe its always better to equip ourself well with certifications from our career progress point of view. We gain an edge over others for sure with certifications. About sjcp, it implies that you are good at java and you qualify to take up other java technology exams ..

Mr Das. your question is genuine but you could have made it look good by avoiding this statement "I am working for a MNC in Pune. India. Fairly well paid."

Hello Mr Adhikari,
I dont know what you really wanted to mean by quoting the statment but what i really wanted to convey was that i am not going for the SCJP exam hoping that i will get a good job if i clear the exam and secondly i am not going for the exam because i want to switch my job very recently because i am not satisfied with the current job and its package ( which generally is the most basic reason for people to switch again its my own view please dont take it otherwise) but i am going for the exam hoping that it would be a good addition to my resume and thats what i wanted to get suggestion about from you all.
thats all thanks for replying and well thanks for the quotes as well :-)
regards,
Nilendu

The other point is that technologies like Servlets, EJBs, and J2ME, all require you to pass the "core" Java exam before you can take the rest.
