Could anyone recommend a good self learn book to achieve Java Certification 1.2 or 1.4?

Hi, Phil! I've been very satisfied with authors Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates and their book 'Sun Certified Programmer and Developer for Java 2'. It is written for the Java 1.4 exam. It's a very good book. It explains the topics detail by detail. Also, don't miss out Mr. Dan Chisholm's mock exams. They tend to be more difficult than the actual exam, but it does help, believe me. You can find these marvelous mocks at http://www.danchisholm.net. I passed the exam in October because of these. I got an 85%. Good luck!

There are many factors to consider when looking for a Study guide. I would bet you don't get the same answer from 2 people. Your level of Experience with Java should be the first consideration. Are you looking for a Study Guide or a book covering all the material on the Exam in one place? When I took my first Exam study guides and certifications were not yet the rage. We used to have to get the requirements and find the information elsewhere. Most books on Certification cover the same topics, it is the depth you will find the difference in. Some also have much more depth then necessary for the exam as the author may consider the information important to using Java in general. Some are also trying to justify their book as something other then a guide to "Paper" certification. Sal

Which book did u use at the beginning of the preparation? I think K&B Book and M&R Book is the most famous and most recommended books in the market for SCJP 1.4 at this moment... In general, study K&B Book for the exam specific and M&R Book for more understanding as a reference, which is more technical...
I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to
run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
