Hi All.
In my honest opinion, the comparison of the two books is a waste of time. Each has its own style. Each has ONE goal! The goal is to help you successfully pass the SCJP exam.
I will agree that Khalid's book has a more "technical" flavour to it, where as Kathy and Berts is more "fun" to read (and I am not belittling K&B book in any way).
Besides being a good study guide for the SCJP, I also use Khalid's book as a reference in the office as do many others on my team.
I would recommend that you purchse both. It really is a small investment to make for the betterment of your career.
K&B's book is a great study guide. (By the way, do not miss the Head First Series of books by K&B (Shameless PLUG!))
Again, personal choices.
Enjoy and I wish you all many successes!

What if we use K&B Book for the exam and also their Head First Java book as a reference... Then where should Mr.Mughal's book be in the book shelf?
I believe that someone who are going to do the exam should think about their leanring style first and decide which one(one and only one) to choose.... Otherwise, there are many books available in the market for using as references....
It's just my personal opinion on certification books in general...

Ko Ko.
I would use K&B book along with Kalhid's book for the exam.
The reason I mentioned Head First series of books is that they have a really great way of presenting concepts "Visually" (MindMapping comes to mind here ).
If you are studying for the SCBDC I would highly recommend Head First EJB.
Since we are discussing the SCJP, I would stick to the two books that seem to be the most valued by fellow Ranchers for this exam.

Yes, all of us r referring to those two books as well..... I guess u might have had a look at my thread out there about the comparison between two books...
I have already got the book "Head First SCBCD" and planning to sit for the exam in May.... In the meantime, I think I'd better upgrade my SCJP to 1.4... Since upgrade exam fee is not that expensive as the full exam...

Yes Ko Ko.
I read the thread that was comparing the two books.
My feeling is that a lot of hard work goes into writing these books (from what I hear, and believe) and I would not want anyone to think less of one of these books or the other.
Each have their strong points and weakneses. What may be a weakness in one book, could very well be a strength in the other. So we, as the reader/student, win
Wishing you the best in both the SCBDC and the upgrade.

That's why such book promotion is held...
We have to know which part of the book is weak or strong so that we can catch the topics up in another book.... If we don't know anything about the book and its weak point, we ourselves won't do well in the exam for sure...
The authors themselves also know that they got weakness in some topics, compared to the other books...
