Hi, I'm interested in taking the first steps toward Java certification, and in looking into it, it looks like there are several different ones. Is it customary (or required?) to start at SCJP, then SCJD? I'd like to check out some of the mock exams to see how much studying I need to do, but I'm not sure where I should start...
Any basic advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Yes, the SCJP exam must be completed before the others are attempted.
My exam is a little more difficult than the real exam. It is intended to be used as a learning experience. If you don't answer a question correctly, then the detailed answer explanation will help you to learn from your mistake. Most people score much higher on the real exam, so don't worry about your score.
After you have completed my exams, then you can use Marcus Green's exam to predict your score on the real exam.

Elaine,
If you would like to get a feeling how well you are doing on each objective individually then we can welcome you on our website. After a basic test of 27 questions, called the trial exam, we give you marks on each objective. This shows immediately what you strengths and weaknesses are.
If after this mock exam you have discovered your weaknesses then you can study and concentrate only on these. Rather handy, isnt it?
Anyway, no matter how or where, we wish you all the best with your studies and your exam.
The following mock-exams are well worth a visit: here and here
