What are the best strategies for studying that some of you have used to pass the SCJP ?

It depends on the starting point IMHO.

The strategy looks a lot like software development...
1.) Analyse what you are planning to do and which
resources you have (litterature, time, money).
2.) Implement (i.e. get your hands dirty ) and study.
3.) Test, test, test (i.e. topic questions/mock exams)
4.) Get back and fill the bugs in your knowledge.
5.) deliver a piece of art
