Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased an exam voucher from Sun to take the exam in March. The one I purchased was 025, i.e. NOT the new Java 1.4 version.
Around about the same time I purchased a Java Certification CBT from DevX.com. I didn't check the version covered, it happens to be for the 035 version. I also have Khalid Murghals Java Cert book for exam 025. The upshoot of all this is that I have a mixture of study materials for each version of the exam. Before I go any further I want to sort out which exam to take and go from there - I thought I'd ask your advice on this!
Firstly is it possible to change the exam voucher to another exam, even if I have used it to book with Prometric?
Secondly, assuming this is possible, should I just go for the 1.4 exam? I haven't done much Swing or UI programming, my experience is all server-side. If I do take the 1.4 exam, is there anything I should look out for?
Many thanks

Marc

As far as I am aware, the 1.4 exam does not deal with GUI's mainly, but includes assertions, whereas the 1.2 exam does have GUI's in it but no assertions. But some of the bartenders and sherriffs will tell you more!
Also, as in other threads someone mentioned that SUN will not ask you to resit exams after 2 years but rather you update your qualification to the latest version.
saying that, I have to do the 1.2 exam because that is what my distance learning centre are teaching me to do. Once passed i will wait for 1.5.

for both of you I recommend taking the 1.4 exam.
even if you studied for the 1.2 exam (like I did) you can still take the 1.4 exam. All you need to do is study Assertions, and you can forget all that IO and AWT stuff -- none of it is on the exam. Virtually no one in industry is using the 1.2 APi now... so why would you want to be certified in it?
This thread has a lot of good links about assertions.

Thanks for the advice.
I've looked at the syllabuses for the two and I think the 1.4 exam is the best bet, especially since it means not having to learn all the swing / awt ui stuff from scratch which should leave me more time to concentrate on the rest of it!
Luckily changing the exam with Prometric was no problem.
