I thought I understood garbage collection until I took Dan's exam on this topic. I don't know whether it was the question format or content, but I missed more questions than I answered correctly.
A few words about me ...
I've been coding in Java for less than a year, but have written a substantial # of lines of code during that period. I have been studying for the exam for just a few weeks now.
Should I pass on taking Dan's exam until I'm further along in my study? It seemed to disorient me more than it helped.

Here's my suggestion. Keep track of how you did on Dan's exam - take special note of the questions that you got wrong.
Then, leave his test for some time and do some additional studying - get a book, hang out here on the Ranch, write sample code, whatever. Then, after you've done some more work, return to Dan's exams and see how much you've improved.
If any questions (or categories) are especially troubleshome for you, look for help here.
