I am trying to find a new career path. I loved programming in college ( 1 year C++, 6 months Java) but have not done anything at a real job. I want to get away from technical support and into programming. I really want to get into wireless programming. I think that would be J2ME. I figured I would take the SCJP then the SCMAD.
My thinking is that there will be more work in the future with J2ME and I will not be as far behind other programmers because it is fairly new.
Is this correct? Do you guys think another route would be better in the long run. I know most of us are in this situation but I would appreciate any thoughts you guys might have.
I think I have read on this site that a few people have taken the Beta Certification exam for the J2ME. Is that correct? If yes, can some of you tell me where I should start in studying that material because all of it will be new to me.
Thanks in advance for all the help.

Eusi,
I think i can give answers to some of your questions.
Yes,it is good to have J2ME knowledge because gone are the days when people were crazy about web technologies and now the techonlogy is going towards integration and mobile connectivity.I am pretty sure about this since am leading couple of projects for Sun and Verizon on the mobile enterprise connectivity.J2ME has excellent future and even Sun has come up with Mobile Application Builder tool to build mobile connectivity based applications.
Am not sure about the J2ME certification but J2ME is the path you can take if you want to stand above the rest of the crowd.

Eusi,
Welcome to JavaRanch. Here at the Ranch, we have a particular naming policy that we would like you to follow. Please follow the link to view the policy and update your publicly displayed name.
Also, as this question isn't really about the SCJP certification, I'm going to move this to Java in General (Intermediate).

Arch enemy? I mean, I don't like you, but I don't think you qualify as "arch enemy". Here, try this tiny ad:
