there's 2 types of Exceptions, checked and unchecked.
Checked exceptions MUST be either caught or declared in a "throws XXX" clause in a method signature, unchecked exceptions MAY be caught or declared (some people say they should never be, but that's personal preference, just as some people say one should never use checked exceptions).
So what you call a "normal" exception is probably what's formally called a checked exception.
