Hurry yourself over to Sun for the SL-275 course, and after that study the book Vicky mentioned.
ISBN is 0072226846
That's the best you can do in a short time, might be enough.

THere is no doubt that K&B is a very good book to prepare for certification. BUt i dont think this is good book to start java.I think u must follow some other book before starting this one otherwise u may not be able to understand K&B.

Welcome to JavaRanch Anshu,
you said:
I don't know java.

From the sun objectives:
The Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform 1.4 certification exam is for programmers experienced in using the basic syntax and structure of the Java programming language.

Would it not be better to learn Java first (not from a certification book), before putting yourself under the stress of the certification examination?

Hi,
When i started learning java last year,
1) I first referred to tutorials on the internet and java books , wrote a lot of small programs. writing programs helped me learn java.
2) after i got a fair idea bout java, i bought K&B book, was very useful in understanding how to solve tricky questions.
3)I went thro javacertificate, javaprepare sites, dan chrisholm sites for topic-wise exams. I concentrated on Threads, Looping (for, if, etc).
4) then took up mock exams on internet and then k&b mock exam.
Best of Luck !

Since you're jsut starting out, I recommend learning Java through BlueJ and the book that goes with it...Objects First
