If you are already certified in SCJP 1.2, why do u want to go for version 1.4? Or just wanna learn a new thing in 1.4? If I am in your shoes, I would go for SCJD 1.4. In fact, I am certified with version 1.2 as well... But I never intend to go for 1.4 intentionly...

just doing the exam won't get you experience to get a job. Maybe it did back in 1999 but no more.
It won't hurt, but don't think the companies will line up to hire you just because you have that piece of paper.
