Does sun keep a check on its prometric centres?

Does sun keep any check on the centres authorised to take the exam?

A few days back a friend of mine gave the SCJP exam but strangely on the PC in which she was giving the exam did not wotk properly. The screen flickered and the mouse was good for nothing (you can imagine giving exam without a mouse ). To make things worse there was a class going on next to prometric room.
Somehow she managed to pass.

If mouse doesn't work or something like that and the candidate fails then who is responsible sun or the prometric center or the candidate.

Secondly, there are many centres in around which promise their students HELP during the exam and also DUMPS before giving the exam.

I don't think that such things will help either Sun or credibility of the exam. Some day employers will realize that you can study dumps or join a center and u can easily clear the exam. I am not sure certifications will be of any use then.

the logical thing to do is file a complaint with both Prometric AND Sun if something like this happens to you.
If you have proof of Prometric employees assisting candidates to pass exams then I am pretty certain Sun and Prometric both would be very keen to have that evidence too.

No doubt Sun sometimes checks on the exam centers, but it would not be difficult to make them look good at the day...

yep they do check the center , they have certain guidlines which the prometric centers folow otherwise they change the center.
whats wrong about centers ? feel free , they are mostly good one ,but if you have faced any difficulties then do make complaint against them.

Its very true man. I happen to know one guy who has cleared the SCJP and he is such a duffer in reality. He is so weak in everything related to Java.
I once asked him how come he is certified and he gave me a wink.

Naturally, I have no proof and would not like to mention names anyway. But it happens I think and probably cannot be eliminated. Still I am sure SCJP is at least betetr than say Brainbench and other likewise tests in that aspect.

But even if it does happen I think the certification should be used by the potential employers only as a "maybe" on the skills. They should not in any case do away with their own testing and interviewing to weed out such bogus people.

What fills me with dread is the thought of a inneficient testing centre. Like the mouse not working. That should not happen to anyone.

If the computer is not functional at the testing center, file a complaint with the testing center and Sun both.

Mention it immediately to the staff at the testing center and you should be allowed to restart the exam on another (functional) machine.
It is after all their responsibility to provide you with the equipment Sun mandates for the exam...

I do think that the prometric center staff would assist you in such extreme cases but it is always safer to ensure that your test environment is silent and all the hardware provided are functional.

I was given a laminated card board sheet on which I could hardly write using a marker pen provided by them (This is usually given for your working on the calculations, etc). I could not even ask for any assistance as my examination has already started, time's ticking and the staff were far away from the examination room. However, I could manage without it by calculating mentally as questions were not too complex.

Luckily, I did not face such hardware problems and I do agree with you all as that would be really disturbing and might even affect your score as none of us would be mentally prepared for such unforeseen situations at an exam.

Lets hope for the good!

Work will teach you how to do it!<br />----------------------
