Hello,

can anybody imagine when sun is going to start the beta test for J2SE 1.5?

Is it the right forum to submit this question?

Thanks,
Wellington.

Java 5 is still in RC, which is not offically released.

As SUN said Java 5 will be released on Oct 2004, I suppose SCJP Tiger beta might release on March to June 2005.

But it maybe much more later, as SUN may wait till Tiger becomes popular, before releasing the beta exam.

A little birdy told me that the SCJP 1.5 exam will rather harder for those who don't like to write code. That is, you are going to have to get a given bit of code to compile or run by shuffling a set of statements around...

That's fine for me still, as it is a programmer exam, it should focus more on coding.

By the way, does the exam content in development stage? I am looking forward to take it.

Hello,

I'm preparing to take the SCBCD (still in the beginning) but if the beta test for J2SE 1.5 starts, I will abort my studying of SCBCD and prepare for 1.5.

I still haven't heard anything about the beta test, I'm just curious!!!

Thanks for your replies.

Howdy -- I can give you the update on SCJP for Java 5 (1.5/Tiger)...although NOTHING is locked in stone, so it could change. We are not planning to create the exam until the very end of 2004 or very early 2005. The beta exam will not take place until February, although it could be later than that. The exam will indeed be very different, and more difficult from a code-writing perspective.

So, I probably wouldn't recommend that anyone wait, since I don't believe the beta will happen for at LEAST six months. But we will definitely keep you updated as we know more and as we set more concrete dates.

Should be fun

We're going to have to do a LOT of work to update the book, since the new exam is going to be so different... makes me tired just thinking about it.

cheers,
Kathy

Hi,

This is Evelyn, the Java Certification Program Manager at Sun Microsystems. I am getting ready to revise the exam and get the Programmer 5.0 out the door by
April 2005.

So the beta will be in January 2005

Please send me an email at evelyn.cartagena@sun.com if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Evelyn
