Hi,
Today I made up my mind to write SCJP1.4 after lots and lots of thinking for the past one year !! .. Whenever I think about the exam I get loads of work in office. Now I have a confusion. I happened to read one of the posts regarding Tiger SCJP. Now should I start preparing for 1.4 or wait some more days. Anyways I have to start preparing right from getting books
Pls advise me. But now I have made up my mind and nothing can stop me!! I hope one month of preparation will be sufficient and I am planning to write in Jan 2005.

Hi Vinu,

My advise to you is that you try some good mocks first(Marcus is the closest to the real exam).

If you find that you are score well on this exam. Then you can start preparing for Java Tiger right now. Java Tiger has new features and its exam is going to be a little tougher but more like real life situations.

So, if you have practical experience on java then its going to be very helpful to you.

Java 1.4 exam is more like cramming concepts and appearing for the exam.
You can check you much you know about java 1.4 by giving some good mocks.

Now, it is going to be your decision what you want to do!!!

If you score well on mocks then you will be ready in less than a month for the final exam. But if you are not scoring well, then you have to prepare from scratch.

I would say that if you have to prepare from scratch then why now java 1.5, and its exam will be available from April 2005. So you will have plenty of time in hand.

But if you are in a hurry, you can give java 1.4 .

Best of Luck
Kaps

Hi Kapil, Thanks a lot!! But I have been postponing this because my memory is weak and I cant get to remember syntax and stuff like that. IDEs have made me a little lazy !! I think I will try Tiger SCJP bcos I have close to 4 yrs of java experience and Tiger SCJP would be easier for me. Again I have to postpone SCJP!! I guess am not lucky with SCJP exams!!

Tiger will be totally different, thus, even you have some years of experiences, you might need to read a lot for Tiger.

There is a feeling that the JDK 1.5 exam will not be out till around the northern Spring, there is always a chance that it will be delayed, and on top of that there is always a delay before you can get your hands on text books and support material for studying so I recommend going for the 1.4 version of the exam.

Plus of course, the word is that the new exam will be harder. If people are looking for a Java programmer and care if you are certified, they tend to focus on the fact you are certified, not the version of the certification.
