how many String objects are created?

I know we have created a reference test that points to the string object "test" but is'nt "test" another object so there are 2 objects here?

Yes there are two. A string literal in the pool, and the String object created by new.

String test1 = new String("hello");

I count this as 3 objects.

while this is 1 object

String test = "test"
String test1 = "test"

Is that understanding correct?
