"You can register the exam from the website of Prometric."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Nick,
first thing, in India we can't register online, we are only given the prometric test centers contact numbers for registration.
second, when I called the prometric testing center, they say that i have to get a voucher from SUN.
and the SUN guys say its not for "YOU" , its only for people who have an invite.

I want to know if anybody from Bangalore bought this voucher!!
Please let me know,
Thanks In Advance,
Mohan.

Sorry to hear that, but I don't need any invitation, I simply register the beta exam online.

Hi
From all i know some people were invited late last year, but right now it's been extended to people but @ a fee of $49. I mailed the prometric center(that handles African exams) and what they said was that i didnt need a voucher for the beta exam, i needed to pay the prometric center the equivalent of $49 in my country to write the exams. So i guess what you should do is go to the prometric center where you would like to write the exams and pay for the equivalent price. There are NO VOUCHERs available for the beta exam for those people that didnt take part in the Survey. Please if there's anyone out there that has counter information, the person should please share. Cheers
Saheed.

For purchasing voucher send a DD ( demand draft ) to SUN, Banglore .

Please help me , what should i do for registration .

I'm not from India. Just some suggestions.

According to Sun official SCJP 5.0 beta exam announcement,

Beta Exam Sign-up Registration
Unlike other Sun Microsystems certification exams, this exam does not require a voucher. To register for the SUN Microsystems Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition 5.0 Beta exam, you may register online at www.2test.com, and follow the prompts.

Or, you may register by phone, by calling your regional Prometric registration office, listed at www.prometric.com/ContactUs/TestTakers.

If you cannot register online, how about you try contacting the Prometric listed at www.prometric.com/ContactUs/TestTakers?

If they insist that the beta exam is only available for those who are invited, kindly explain that SCJP 5.0 beta exam is open to the public at a reduced price of $49 US and show them this link: http://training.sun.com/US/certification/java/beta.html

In the past, Sun beta exams were free and only a small number of lucky fellows got the free vouchers on a first-come, first-serve basic. And also for those who took part in the Blueprint survey. Here is an ancient link for SCJP 1.4 beta exam.

Mohan, how about you send an e-mail to Anuja.Jacob@Sun.COM again and explain what I've mentioned above?

And for those of you who have successfully registered the beta exam in India, please do share the procedures here.

Hi Rathi,

Just curious, what problems did you encounter while registering online?

You're told to send a demand draft to Sun in Bangalore. Did you call up or send an e-mail to Sun for clarification? If so, what did they say? The contact information of Sun Microsystem centers in various countries is listed here.

Or how about you try to contact Anuja.Jacob@Sun.COM (see Mohan's first post) and make sure you attach this link http://training.sun.com/US/certification/java/beta.html in the e-mail?

I could see the beta exam number 311-055. But encountered a different problem.

1. Go to www.2test.com
2. Select Information Technology (IT) Certification for Step 1
3. Select Sun Microsystems for Step 2
4. Select India for Step 3, then click Next.
5. Select Schedule an appointment
6. Select Sun Microsystems for Clients
7. Select Sun Microsystems (310, 311) for Program, then click Next.
8. You'll see a big Sun logo, click Next.
9. Select 311-055 Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform, SE 5.0, then click Next.
10. Show a list of test sites in India

However, when I randomly clicked on some sites, it popped up this page: http://www.prometric.com/ContactUs/TestTakers/APACRegInfo.htm. Just as what Mohan has said in his second post. Normally, it would show a login page.

Great news!

Rathi, did you have to purchase a voucher from local Sun center? Or the local prometric center will help you to settle everything from voucher to booking?

That might not be always the case even you have paid it.

1. 13 Feb 2005 is Sunday, do make sure that there is a center which opens on Sunday.
2. My friend has a bad experience in taking Oracle10g DBA I exam. We studied together, the beta period is 15 July 2004 to 30 Sep 2004. We registered on 10 Aug 2004 (which around 1.5 month before the beta end). I took the exam on 3 Sep 2004, while he choose to take it on 30 Sep 2004 (due to a business trip). On the exam day (30 Sep 2004 10am), the center called my friend, telling him that there was a problem in the center, and thus, he could not sit for the exam there. But it was already too late for him to reschedule to another center, because all centers are full (as you know, there are only a few, if not none, centers which accept walkin registeration)! And Prometric simply cancel his exam, and refund to him, even without saying sorry for him.

Thus, in order to protect yourself better, try schedule the exam, say, 1 week or at least 3 days before the end of beta period, and thus, in case there are anything happen, you can still take the beta.

Hi,

Thanks Nick, for providing with valuable info, actually i have tried all the alternatives that nick has mentioned.

I called up SUN, they said it is only for people with invite,
I mailed them with the "suned" link, still i did not get any reply.
I called up SUN india office, they told to mail with the details and said they will reply to it, but i did not get reply to any of my mails.
I feel SUN's sales service for exam vouchers is really bad in India (strictly my opinion, based on my experience )

Then, I mailed to thomson prometric, i got a prompt reply saying that i can apply for the exam, by calling any of the local thomson prometric center.

In the mean time I called my local thomson prometric center,
they found out the details and told that i can take the exam by paying them 40$.

Finally, I bought a voucher for SCJP5.0 beta exam.

So, for people in India, we can directly walk into any of the thompson prometric exam centers,
pay them 49$ and schedule for the SCJP5.0 beta exam.
[B] There is no need for buying any voucher from SUN [B]

For people in Bangalore here is the address:
Thomson Prometric Testing(p) ltd,
Lavelle Road, 7th cross, Maini Sadan, First floor.
Phone: 080-22292553
[Landmarks: Near cubbon park, End of MG Road (the road adjoining Jewels De Paragon)]

And, Rathi, I don't think any thompson prometric center will conduct exam on Sunday. Please find out about that once again.

I am going to write the Beta exam on 7th Feb.
Any suggestions on how to prepare for the beta exam would be appreciated .

Once again Thanks a LOT!!

All the best for SCJP5.0 beta exam,
With Warm Regards,
Mohan.

You are wrong. There are centers who work on Sundays as well.

I did not register at the center whose address you have posted because they do not work on Saturday.
