Not really indeed if you are well-prepared.

I'm trying to register for 311-055 exam (tiger beta) but I'm facing some problems with the prometric center. I'm wondering is there am end date for registeration or the end date is Feb. 13th.

There's an oversight in the letter sent out to the Blueprint survey participants. I checked with SunBeta and they clarified that the actual registration began on 3 Jan 05. And I've already registered.

I can confirm that, Pradeep. I have registered already with the survey voucher. My problem (well Prometric's really) was to find a certification centre with a slot for a 5 hour exam. Everything was comming up negative, until they realized that the scheduling software was assuming that exams were held only from 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 with a lunch break. Actually in Switzerland the 5+ hour Beta is probably breaking the law

I'm taking it on 5th of February. Although we are not using Java 5 at work yet (may be towards the end of the year, when we plan major upgrades), 26 quid for the Beta exam was just irresistable Hopefully, next 3 weeks will be enough to do enough reading and practice, kinda busy nowadays.
Although I use Java 1.4 night and day; I never had a chance to look at new Java features before (apart from reading a couple of high-level tech articles). Man, do I like what I see I kind of wish they also incorporated method-templates and default arguments as well.
I've never taken a beta exam before, so I assume we will not get a pass/fail report at the end, and probably no correct/incorrect answers break down. Any insiders around to confirm it?
How about when the beta results/certification kit will be available?
By the way, good luck everyone, and try to do extremely well to keep the passing score high

You will not receive anything after taking the beta. The score report will be mailed to you via Prometric directly 8-10 weeks after the beta exam period ends (13 Feb 2005).

In case we pass the exam, the cert. kit will be mailed to us 2-6 weeks we received the score report.

I'm not surprised that Java does not have method-templates because everything in Java is in a Class. I would like to have seen default arguments and wonder what the problem is with implementing them in Java.

Will you at least know the number of questions you got right? I figure if you know you got 100% you can surmise that you've passed; if you know you got around 60% you're probably on the bubble; and if you know you got less than 50%, you can surmise that you probably did not pass.
I can see the reason Sun would not know the passing percentage for the beta period, but they certainly know how many a questions a candidate got right and wrong.

No, you will not know anything until you receive your score report. This is because some questions, for example, the answer is set to A, however, after receiving comments from the beta candidates, they might change the answer to B, which means, the previous correct answer is now become incorrect. Or, some ambigous questions will even removed. Thus, even you got 70% correct, but if within these 70%, 10% of them are cancelled, you will get a fail. Thus, it is meaningless for us to get anything except the offical result.
And, keep in mind, this is the rule of the game, while nobody knows the reasons.

But suppose if we fail the exam , then will we receive any thing
Still, you will receive your score report via mail from Prometric.

I've just finished skimming through the developer notebook today, and realised I've got to read something with greater detail. Hopefully, I'll also do some coding practices over the next two weeks (work permitting).
